Ronald McDonald House Charities® Reaps Rewards From La-Z-Boy® Furniture Fans and Followers:The winter holidays make up a “season of giving” and this month, for every new “fan” or “follower” of La-Z-Boy on Facebook or Twitter, the company will give back to Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®). Throughout December, La-Z-Boy will donate one dollar to RMHC for every new “fan” (or “like”) on Facebook, and every new handle that follows @lazboycomfort on Twitter, up to $10,000.

“We want La-Z-Boy fans to help us show support for Ronald McDonald House Charities,” said Jennifer Sims, interactive CRM manager for La-Z-Boy. “With the help of our social media followers, we can work together to make this a happier holiday season for the families who rely so much on RMHC.”

In 2008, La-Z-Boy became the official furniture provider to RMHC nationwide, providing further comfort and enhancing the supportive environment of a Ronald McDonald House or Ronald McDonald Family Room. Ronald McDonald Houses are located near hospitals throughout the United States and are there to keep families together when their children are in the hospital – they offer strength and stability to families during their time of greatest need.

In addition, the company is utilizing la-z-boy.com and their consumer database to build buzz and encourage new fans and followers. These new users will not only help raise money for RMHC, but also will have access to exclusive sneak peeks, sweepstakes, local store events and promotions, design tips, videos, RMHC news and more.

The couple looking to make good money, Steve and Jennifer took to the questions like professionals but as we watched tonight, the anxiety of putting the cash on the correct drop can be difficult.

The fifth question of the night reminds us all why a little healthy pop culture is essential to keep the brain cells going. The question had everything to do with Texas and the products America uses. The question was 'Which of these brands was founded in the State of Texas? The three choices were quite misleading and the couple lost some cash in the process of elimination. The possible answers were Old El Paso, Alamo Rent a Car and Texaco.

The correct answer for the evening was Texaco. You might be asking yourself where was Texaco founded? According to the Internet, the Texas Fuel Company, founded in 1901 in Beaumont, Texas, by Joseph S. Cullinan, Thomas J. Donoghue, Walter Benona Sharp, and Arnold Schlaet upon discovery of oil at Spindletop. The company sold gas in all 50 states and was independent until it merged in 2001.

Texaco|Carl Icahn Recounts the Pennzoil Texaco/Getty Oil Feud|texas instruments|texas holdem poker:The Getty Oil takeover battle between Texaco and Pennzoil was probably one of the ugliest in Wall Street's history. In 1984, Texaco swooped in at the last minute with a winning bid before Pennzoil was able to finalize an already agreed-upon deal with Getty Oil.

A furious Pennzoil filed suit and started a bitter legal feud that lasted for the following four years, which pushed Texaco into bankruptcy, until a settlement of $3 billion, brokered by Carl Icahn, was reached. At the time, Cal Icahn, a noted corporate raider and financier, accumulated over 13% of Texaco's stock in a failed attempt to take control of the board.

However, the settlement, in which Icahn acted as a catalyst, removed the dark clouds hanging over Texaco and Pennzoil. As a result, both companies were able to move on and refocus on business. The resulting gains in stock prices also got Icahn some sizable financial windfall.

In the end, the biggest winner of all were the law firms, as Texas lawyer Joseph Jamail (whom Icahn mentioned in the video below) reportedly got $600 million for leading Pennzoil's attack against Texaco.
