Most Purchased Item on Amazon in 2009:Million Dollar Money on FOX

motorola-milestone-1Most Purchased Item on Amazon in 2009:Million Dollar Money on FOX:Million Dollar Money Drop tonight on FOX definitely had the fans looking for answers to help the couple win cash. The couple, Casey and Kyle were looking to raise some cash to build a life for their family and have a winery. While in the end, they walked away a winner, there was no doubt some of the questions had them pulling their hair out with worry.

Anyone who thinks this game show is a breeze, needs to check themselves with question number number 5 tonight and think about their pop culture trivia. In an interesting celebrity based trivia question, the answer actually was the least likely to be thought about.

Question number 5 was: What was the most purchased item on Amazon.com in 2009?

* The Twilight DVD,
* The I Dreamed a Dream Download from Susan Boyle
* The Kindle Ebook reader.

All three answers are logical thoughts on 2009 which was a stellar year for Susan Boyle and had Twilight on the top of the Pop culture train. Interestingly enough the correct answer was number three. After looking at the statistics of the new ebook readers Amazon has sold thousands of the Kindle Ebook Readers.

Amazon has made no secret of Kindle’s success on its site. Its homepage has been promoting it with a call-out noting that it’s the #1 best-selling, #1 most wished for and #1 most-gifted item for sale on its site. To the delight of analysts, the notoriously close-mouthed (when it comes to actual sales stats) e-tail giant went further this morning.

The Kindle team posted the following message on its Kindle community forum, with the subject headline: “Thank you Kindle customers!”
Thanks to you, in just the first 73 days of this holiday quarter, we’ve already sold millions of our all-new Kindles with the latest E Ink Pearl display. In fact, in the last 73 days, readers have purchased more Kindles than we sold during all of 2009. We’re grateful for and energized by the overwhelming customer response.

Engadget mulls that vague statement on Kindle holiday sales to e-read between the lines:

Amazon has left us with no choice: making sales conclusions based on a single additional letter. The company, notoriously vague on Kindle sales, has announced that “in just the first 73 days of this holiday quarter, we’ve already sold millions of our all-new Kindles.” In other words, at least two million, and more for Kindle overall if you consider DX (still on sale) and the recent lightning deal blowout of the Kindle 2. Amazon’s Department of Creative Statistics also noted that this elusive sales figure is greater than all its Kindle sales in 2009. How many is that, you ask? No idea — we know “millions” were sold between 2007 and 2009.
